Metal halide light bulbs are used where huge quantities of light are required and realistic lighting affects are desired. Almost all corals can be kept under the wattages of light available from this type of lighting.

Those aiming to keep soft corals only should go with a lower wattage, and those wanting high light SPS should go with a minimum of 250W.

There is a vast array of bulb color and brands available. Change every year or so.
