A weakened or sick fish will often succumb to parasitic infection if it isn't sufficiently treated in the short term.

Depending on the type of parasite, some treatments will be as short as a bath (dip) or as long as a week. There is a great deal of medications available and some are more effective than others for specific parasites.

Also, some medications are "reef safe" and thus can be safely used in your reef aquarium. Before using medication, ensure that all background water parameters are stable and within adequate range.
