Often overlooked is the stress that medication can have on a fish. While it can be very helpful in "tipping the tides" in the fishes favor, it does put additional strain on the animal.

Medication should only be used as a last resort, when a quality diet and stable environment (check those background water parameters!) are not good enough.

Also, it is important that the medication is not combined with others, and to keep in mind that most medications target specific parasites or bacteria.
