CULTURED CORAL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • Question: "What is the difference between cultured and wild caught corals?"
Answer: There are several differences. These include:

    • First and foremost size. Cultured corals are MUCH smaller. Average size ranges from 1-2" for small, and 3" for large specimens.
    • Cultured corals tend to be used to aquarium life (after all they are raised in an aquarium), and have grown accustomed to aquarium conditions. In most instances they are hardier.
    • Sustainability. Wild caught corals, although protected through CITES can be over harvested. By supporting coral farmers we are supporting our oceans.

  • Question: "Why don't you sell many LPS cultured corals?"
Answer: LPS (Brains, Bubbles, etc.) corals tend to be much slower growing than either SPS or Soft corals. In addition fragging them in general is much more difficult without damaging the mother colony.

  • Question: "Are these corals sexually reproduced?"
Answer: At this time no. All corals are fragmented from mother colonies. Hopefully in the near future we will learn enough about coral reproduction and larval requirements to raise corals through sexual reproduction.

  • Question: "Do you stock all of the items listed?"
Answer: We try. Generally, all cultured corals listed are kept in stock. However if there are large sales in a short time period for one particular type of coral it may take a few weeks to allow the mother colony to be fragged again.
