Product Description
Hanna Calcium Checker
The Hanna Calcium Checker HI758 is a handheld marine calcium colorimeter designed for saltwater aquariums and reef systems, giving a digital calcium result in ppm without relying on colour-chart matching. It is a practical upgrade from traditional titration-style calcium test kits for hobbyists who want a compact, single-parameter checker for monitoring one of the most important reef aquarium elements.
Hanna HI758 Marine Calcium Testing
Calcium is essential for stony coral growth, coralline algae development, and the formation of calcium carbonate skeletons in reef aquariums. The HI758 is dedicated specifically to marine calcium testing and uses a fixed wavelength LED with a silicon photocell to measure the colour reaction produced by the reagent method, then displays the result directly on the checker screen.
Calcium Checker Features
- Digital calcium reading helps remove the guesswork of visually matching colours on a test chart.
- Designed specifically for saltwater aquarium calcium testing.
- Compact handheld format is easy to store, transport, and use near the aquarium.
- One-button operation keeps testing simple for routine reef maintenance.
- LED light source and silicon photocell provide colorimeter-style measurement in a small checker format.
- Measures calcium from 200 to 600 ppm, covering the practical range used in most marine and reef aquariums.
- 1 ppm resolution gives a more precise displayed result than many basic hobby test kits.
- Uses the Zincon method with Hanna HI758-26 replacement reagents.
- Auto shut-off after ten minutes of non-use helps conserve battery life.

Important Testing Notes for the Hanna Calcium Checker
The HI758 uses a 100 to 1 dilution during testing, so calcium-free distilled or deionized water is required for accurate results. Hanna notes that tap water, saltwater, or some home RO/DI water can contain enough calcium to cause falsely high readings, especially if used for the dilution step or to clean cuvettes. For best results, use pure vapor distilled water or low-conductivity deionized water, keep cuvettes clean, and avoid contaminating the sample with excess saltwater on the pipette tip.

Using the Hanna Calcium Checker
Follow the included instructions and quick start guide carefully, using calcium-free distilled or deionized water for the dilution step. Keep the glass cuvettes clean and free of fingerprints, rinse only with suitable calcium-free water, measure reagents accurately, and replace reagents with Hanna HI758-26 Marine Calcium Checker reagents when the starter supply is used up.
