Blennies are diminutive fish typically with elongated bodies, and as such we do not recommend any aggressive or large-mouthed fish to be kept with them; this includes all groupers, snappers, sweetlips, soapfish, lionfish, eels, goatfish, anglers/frogfish, leaf fish, and any other fish who may eat them.

The Barnacle blenny is an uncommon but fascinating little fish. It has an elongated body which is beige in color, mottled with brown camouflaging markings and a red eye. Males and females are visually identical. It grows up to 2 inches.

The Barnacle blenny spends nearly all its time within crevices in rocks and shells with its head sticking out, always alert and watching its environment. When it spots a morsel of food it darts out with lightning speed to retrieve it, then zips back to the safety of the rocks. As long as there are plenty of hiding places many Barnacle blennies may be kept together. This makes for an amazing display at feeding time!

Diet should include plenty of high quality meaty items, marine algae, Spirulina, and frozen Mysis shrimp. It is preferable to feed more than once a day. We recommend a well-established aquarium of at least 10 gallons or larger.
